Bookmark this page, share it with your co-founder, or link to it from your own resource list — it's free to use. Every item below is something we've seen founders skip, then have to fix later at a higher cost than doing it right the first time.
Brand Foundations
Do this before a single logo concept is designed — skipping it is the single most common (and most expensive to fix) mistake we see.
- Write a one-sentence positioning statement: who you serve, what you do, and why you're different.
- Identify your three closest competitors in Dubai/UAE or India and note what they visually and verbally do well — and poorly.
- Define your brand personality in 3-5 adjectives (e.g. "premium, direct, warm") to guide every design decision that follows.
- Confirm your business name is available as a domain (.com and your local ccTLD) before falling in love with it.
Visual Identity
- Commission a logo system, not just a mark — you need a primary logo, a compact/icon version, and a monochrome version.
- Lock a colour palette: one primary, one or two secondary tones, and a neutral set for text/backgrounds.
- Choose a type system: one display/heading font, one body font, both licensed for commercial and web use.
- Get a written brand guideline document (even a simple one-pager) so freelancers and new hires stay consistent.
- Confirm you own the final source files (AI/Figma/Sketch) — not just flattened PNG/JPG exports.
Website Launch
- Decide your platform based on actual need (see our headless vs. traditional CMS guide) — don't default to the trendiest option.
- Write real copy before final design — placeholder "lorem ipsum" text almost always produces a layout that breaks with real content.
- Optimise images and fonts for speed before launch (see our performance-first web design guide) — retrofitting speed later is harder.
- Set up Google Analytics (or a privacy-friendly alternative) and Google Search Console before the day you launch, not after.
- Test the site on an actual mobile device on mobile data — not just a resized desktop browser window.
- Add a clear, low-friction contact or quote-request form above the fold on your services/homepage.
Business Basics (UAE & India)
- Confirm your trade license / business registration activity code matches what you actually plan to do.
- Decide mainland vs. free zone (UAE) or the right entity structure (India) based on where your actual customers are, not just setup cost.
- Open a business bank account early — this step alone can take several weeks in both markets.
- Register for VAT/GST if your projected turnover requires it, and set up invoicing that's compliant from day one.
Marketing Launch
- Claim your Google Business Profile before launch day so it's indexed and verified when you go live.
- Set up business profiles on the social platforms your actual customers use — not every platform that exists.
- Prepare a simple 4-6 week content calendar for launch month so you are not improvising daily.
- Line up 2-3 warm contacts or early customers ready to give a testimonial or referral in your first month.
SEO Launch
- Submit an XML sitemap to Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools on launch day.
- Write unique, keyword-relevant meta titles and descriptions for every page — not a single template reused everywhere.
- Add basic structured data (Organization/LocalBusiness schema) so search engines understand who and where you are.
- Publish at least one genuinely useful blog post before launch — an empty blog section can look worse than no blog at all.
A Note on Business & Legal Basics
The checklist above covers what we know well — brand, design, web, and marketing. For trade licenses, free zone vs. mainland registration, and other UAE or India business-formation specifics, always confirm current requirements with a licensed corporate services provider or legal advisor, since rules and costs vary by emirate, free zone, and business activity.
